According to the organization memorandum of the county & city police bureaus of Taiwan, our bureau had been established on July 1, 1982. It was originally conjunction with the police bureau of Chiayi county, observing the document no. 174204, November 29, 1992, and it was then bisected from the police bureau of Chiayi county on January 1, 1992.
Subordinating to Chiayi city government, our bureau is under the supervison of th police superintendent department, whose obligations are to preserve societal peace, to maintain societal security, to prevent damages from happening, and to advance the people's welfare. With member crews of 854, the scheduled crews for the year of 2003 are 729. Having 1 director, 2 deputy directors, 1 executive secretary; our bureau has been structured with 6 divisions (including administration, training, census, foreign affairs, logistics, and police security), 7 sections (including secretary, supervision, security, accounting, human resource, information, and public relations), 4 teams (including detective, traffic, house security, and juvenile), two centers (duties command center and civil defense controlling center), and with 2 substations (including the first substation and the second substation); a total of 12 police stations and 247 police duty posts are set within our bureau.

The far east point of our city is Luchuli Yushi Temple, which is situated at 120'30"04’’’E and 23'28"29’’’N. The most west point is Dashichu, it is located at 120’23’’10’’’E and 23’27’’51’’’N. The most south point is Huneili river, which is situated at 120’25’’53’’’E and 23’26’’29’’’N. And the far north point is in the south of Chaoto industrial area, it is located at 120’25’’57’’’E and 23’31’’12’’’N.
The area of the city is 60.0256 square kilometers, whose west is adjacent to Chichu volost, Fanglu volost of Chiayi county, and whose south neighbors with Shuishang volost of Chiayi county. Its west neighbors with Taipao volost of Chiayi county, and its north is adjacent to Mingshong volost of Chiayi county. Chiayi is an inner city, which is surrounded by Chiayi county all around. With plain terrain, there is no mountain range in Chiayi city, for which only the Bachong river, the Puzhi river, and the Peikong river transfix throughout the city.

The intendency of the city has been divided into east and west districts. The east district subordinates to the second substation dominion, while the west district subordinates to the first substation dominion. A total of 110 lis are projected in the city.
